As a high school student, Suellen Charter landed a job at the San Diego Zoo selling popcorn and fruit popsicles. In 1981, she transferred to the Institute for Conservation Research as a laboratory assistant while attending Mesa Community College. With a degree in biology, Ms. Charter joined the Genetics Division. She contributed to the published work "Atlas of Mammalian Chromosomes" and continues to contribute to numerous other papers.
